Alajuela 38 Salon

Enjoy comfortable living accommodations aboard this Alajuela 38. The salon is well-designed and uncluttered. A U-shaped settee to starboard is faced by a settee-berth to port, with storage outboard. Ahead of the companionway to port is a huge chart table, with cavernous refrigerator beneath.

Lighting and ventilation are excellent throughout. Upholstery is new.

The drop-leaf table is custom-designed with outstanding attention to detail. The table and starboard settee convert to a double berth that can comfortably accommodate two people.

The hull is fully insulated, and the Mahogany ceiling extends down to the cabin sole level. Mahogany faced plywood throughout is capped with solid Mahogany trim, cabin sole is solid mahogany, not the paper thin veneer overlay so common on more recent production boats.

In lieu of the common (cheap) storage bins, there are drawers instead with top notch joinery.

The Galley in this Alajuela Sailboat is positively stunning, and it is loaded with features. The galley in this Alajuela 38 was based on the original factory Alajuela design. It is to starboard and U-shaped. Jack Wilbur improved upon the original galley design based on his years of experience with ocean cruising; he added some unique details that any ocean cruiser would appreciate. Some of the features include:

Commercial grade stainless steel counters, which were customized to keep spills contained.
The sink has both hot and cold pressurized water.
Lots of wood and beautiful workmanship
Generous-sized drawers and storage areas
The generously sized top-loading refrigerator is integrated underneath the chart table, which is on the port side.

Shipmate 2-burner alcohol stove with oven, mounted in gimbals.
Single stainless steel sink with stainless steel counter.

The best part is that the storage is all easily accessible. You will not have to rip your berth apart to access the storage area underneath. All you have to do is pull the drawers open! If you’ve ever had to store anything under the bed in a traditional V-berth, you are sure to appreciate this design. That’s just one of the many details that sets this boat apart from others.

Stateroom Description

The foreward stateroom has a generous double to port with drawers under, with a locker plus enclosed head to starboard.

Privacy Features

Sanitary System

Holding: 18 Gallons ( Integral GRP over urethane epoxy coated with access ports set into silicone gasket)

Toilet: Manual Raritan, discharge to selector, either to high loop and overboard or to holding tank and deck pump-out.

Holding tank reported 18 gal; integral GPP under forward cabinsole. Hoses are marine grade, new, as are the hose clamps.

Stall shower in head compartment, with with sump on centerline, electric pump with float switch.

The design is similar to the original Alajuela 38 factory design with a few improvements There are 2 medicine cabinets. One is mounted externally on the side wall adjacent to the toilet; it is finished in mahogany including a large mirror. The main medicine cabinet over the sink has a sliding mirror cabinet, a very nice touch.

Enjoy hot water showers as this Alajuela has been fitted with a water heater. The shower valves are concealed behind the sink’s medicine cabinet and all the valves and hardware are top quality.

There is a dorade box above for proper ventilation.
