Overview
The Alajuela 38 was developed from the eminently seaworthy Colin Archer double-enders to combine comfortable living accommodations with stout construction and performance. (Renown for superior construction to similar boats of the time like the Westsail, Boatworks Drednought & Bristol Channel Cutter).
Her one piece solid fiberglass hull with massive amounts of glass in bottom and keel makes for peace of mind when underway, while well thought-out, uncrowded interior makes for comfortable living aboard when in port. This hull is fully insulated, and the Mahogany ceiling extends down to the cabin sole level. Mahogany faced plywood throughout is capped with solid Mahogany trim, cabin sole is solid mahogany, not the paper thin veneer overlay so common on more recent production boats.
In lieu of the common (cheap) storage bins, there are drawers instead with top notch joinery.
The interior layout has an anchor locker forward, followed by a utility room for storage of sails, bicycles, anchor chain while under way, etc.
The forward stateroom has a generous double to port with drawers under, with a locker plus enclosed head to starboard. In the salon, a U-shaped sette to starboard is faced by a sette to port with storage outboard.
Ahead of the companion way to port a huge chart table with large super insulated refrigeration beneath. To starboard, a compact U-shaped galley.
Lighting and ventilation are excellent throughout. Upholstery is new.
Machinery is located beneath the cockpit and readily accessible for maintenance.
The boat was recently completed from a factory assembled hull and deck by a professional shipwright with extensive cruising experience.
Her recent survey estimates market value at $280,000, and she is available for $215,000.
